We are one of only two operators with access to the entire Churchill Wildlife Management Area, offering exclusive opportunities to view wild polar bears in their natural habitat. Known as the Polar Bear Capital of the World, there is no better place to witness wild polar bears—and no better way to do it than aboard a Tundra Buggy® or by staying at the Tundra Buggy Lodge, where you live among the bears. Located directly beneath the Auroral Oval, the northern town of Churchill offers front-row access to one of the world’s most spectacular natural phenomena—the aurora borealis. Our winter adventures include daytime activities like snowshoeing and dog sledding, followed by access to a different remote viewing location each night. Our guests also experience an exclusive, chef-curated culinary experience beneath the dancing northern lights.

Beluga Whale Adventures

Known as the Beluga Whale Capital of the World, Churchill welcomes thousands of belugas each summer as they migrate into the warm, shallow waters of the Churchill River to give birth and feed. On land, explore the vibrant tundra alive with wildflowers and migratory birds. With a bit of luck, you might spot a caribou or a summer polar bear. We round out your adventure by visiting historic sites that bring Churchill’s storied past to life.

In autumn, Churchill is all about polar bears. Visit in October to witness the tundra’s vibrant fall colors, or come in November to see the Hudson Bay coast draped in ice and snow.

Our adventures take you deep into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area (CWMA), where polar bears roam freely in their natural habitat. As one of only two operators with permits to access the entirety of the CWMA, we provide unparalleled access to observe wild polar bears up close.

In summer, Churchill earns its title as the Beluga Whale Capital of the World, as thousands of belugas migrate to the Churchill River estuary to give birth and nurture their young.

Frequently Asked

The best time to see wild polar bears in Churchill is during the fall migration season, typically from early October through mid-November. This is when polar bears gather near the coast of Hudson Bay, waiting for the sea ice to form so they can begin their winter hunt. It’s the most reliable time to observe large numbers of bears in their natural environment.

We run our Northern Lights tours in February and March because these months offer ideal viewing conditions — long, dark nights, cold temperatures, and typically clear skies. Churchill also sits directly beneath the auroral oval, making it one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights. This window offers the best chance to experience their full brilliance.
